1. Farm Assist raided
Police yesterday arrested two men at Farm Assist, the “蒸气室”在哥廷根街上经营克里斯·恩斯(Chris Enns)和谢里·里夫(Sherri Reeve),后面的夫妻The Compassionate Use Club, which distributes medical marijuana.Says the police release:
今天中午左右,在哈利法克斯地区警察和哈利法克斯地区皇家皇家骑警的统一成员的协助下,综合刑事调查部门的毒品部门同时执行了三项独立的搜查令,该搜查令与正在进行的毒品贩运调查有关,这些调查源于许多投诉。公众。搜索以下位置:
·A business in the 2300 block of Gottingen Street in Halifax. Officers seized a quantity of marijuana, a large quantity of cash and drug paraphernalia. They arrested two men, age 19 and 40, at the scene without incident.
·A residence in the 700 block of East Chezzetcook Road, Head of Chezzetcook. Officers seized a quantity of marijuana and a large quantity of cash. They arrested a 39-year-old man还有一个47岁的女人without incident.
·A property on Colford Drive, Head of Chezzetcook where a large marijuana grow operation was located. Officers seized several hundred marijuana plants in various stages of growth. No one was arrested during this search
The suspects are currently being interviewed and charges are anticipated.
Yes, Enns and Reeve obviously courted arrest with their in-your-face operation, but good on them for standing firm in their convictions. The police always attach this boilerplate nonsense to their releases about drug arrests: “Drug activity often involves violence that puts innocent citizens at risk and is detrimental to the overall safety of our communities.” But Enns and Reeve are the very definition of nonviolence. They are crusaders in the pot wars, but they wouldn’t hurt a flea. Their operation involves a few dozen people growing pot in their backyards and getting together to smoke at their club. This is not the Mexican mafia.
Arresting people for pot breeds contempt for the law and for the police, and deservedly so.
为了摆脱梅根·莱斯利(Megan Leslie)的讨厌,计划大师安迪·菲尔莫尔(Andy Fillmore)宣布他正在寻找the Liberal nomination for the federal riding of Halifax。Just to annoy us, Fillmore says he wants to “put Halifax back on the national and world maps.”
3. Mohamed Yaffa
Yaffa is the Halifax man who is a victim of security theatre at airports, and who has提出人权投诉反对加拿大航空。
4. Another politician moves to Alberta
DarrenBruckschwaiger, a Cape Breton Regional Municipality councillor, has up and quit his job as councillor and moved to Alberta for work in the tar sands. “I’m going to miss the wife, the dog, the cat, the run to Tim Hortons every morning, driving around the district—that’s stuff I did every day,”he told the Cape Breton Post。
5. Boy charged with murder

Graham Steelegives a previewof this fall’s sitting of the House. These inside baseball pieces usually are tedious, but Steele’s take is refreshingly blunt.
Steele’s new book this week并希望今天阅读。
2. Billion dollar nonsense
No doubt you’ve read the figure repeatedly: Nova Scotia could generate a billion dollars a year in economic activity through fracking. BS, pointing out that in reality, whatever potential oil or gas is recoverable in Nova Scotia would be “dribs and drabs”:
Further, there was the testimony of Duncan Keppie, a Scottish-born geologist with a big international reputation who first described the province’s underlying plate tectonics and has declared the notion of untold gas riches under Nova Scotia “rubbish.”
Surette appropriately ridicules the notion that Nova Scotia’s economic problems are rooted in our bad attitude. There’s so much more to say about that, but if I start I’d get carried away and never get this Morning File published.
3. Yeah, Armageddon!
Gail Lethbridge,Roger Taylor, and比尔·布莱克are fans of the end of the world, and want to make it happen quicker. None of them, of course, mention climate change in their columns supporting fracking. I don’t know if Taylor or Black have kids, but Lethbridge has written about hers. It’s interesting that she wants to destroy their planet.

Thanks for the comments on the ridiculousness of the police prosecuting peaceful people for pot. Not in this case, but often there is class and racial bias in who gets charged for simple pot possession. A police officer told me that I “don’t need to worry” becuase most possession charges are of people that they want for something else. . . and as a (fairly) law abiding woman in her 60’s, arresting me would serve no purpose. Anyway, thanks for the sense. One thing I do not understand is that in BC and Toronto smoking and vaping lounges go undisturbed, so the Halifax police, although they claim that they cannot decide who to charge, are out of step with police in other big cities, who almost never lay simple possession charges, or raid mom and pop lounge and compassion operations. So the police do have decision making power. IN halifax they would rather go and charge peaceful Mom and Pop operstions than go after organized crimes and gangs. Personal safety considerations entering into — still having the good stats on arrest — I fear.
Mr. Black has a son, fyi. He ran in the last provincial election in the Halifax Citadel – Sable Island riding (that his father used to run in).
“我们都知道,大麻的使用将在几年内合法或非刑事化”,尽管潮流正在转移,称它将在几年内将其合法化是有点延长的。
Chrétien’s government introduced a bill in 2002 to decriminalize 15 grams or less but Parliament was prorogued. Martin introduced the same bill in 2004 and then the government was defeated. The current Conservative government tried to add harsher penalties between 2009-2011.
